Job Description

Level is a learning technology company dedicated to helping students build real academic and life skills with confidence and joy. We combine proven curriculum principles with world class interactive design to make meaningful practice something students want to come back to, not something they struggle through.

We support what teachers, schools, and parents are already doing by increasing student engagement with high quality, standards aligned practice that reinforces classroom learning. That’s why we’re building:

For students: Rewarding and motivating learning experiences that meet students where they are to build real academic proficiency.

For educators: Tools that fit naturally into instruction and help students stay engaged while reducing teacher workload.

For parents: Activities that help your kid catch up or get ahead, build confidence, and minimize homework battles, whether learning at school or at home.

We are committed to helping every person maximize their potential and live a life of meaning. It’s a difficult problem that requires brilliant people and tremendous effort over time.

If you want to use your skills to make a difference for the world, we're seeking a creative Digital Interaction Designer to transform educational curriculum into captivating digital experiences that make learning irresistible. This role sits at the intersection of education, motion design, and product strategy—you'll be the architect of how students experience learning moments in our edtech platform. If you're passionate about using animation, VFX, motion graphics, and thoughtful interaction design to spark curiosity and celebrate learning achievements, this is your opportunity to make education feel magical.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum-to-Digital Translation: Partner with curriculum designers and educators to transform learning concepts into engaging digital interactions that enhance comprehension and retention while maintaining pedagogical integrity

  • Classroom Experience Design: Define and design the complete spectrum of student interactions within our platform—from how questions are presented and answered, to how feedback is delivered, to how learning milestones are celebrated

  • Motion & Animation Systems: Create comprehensive motion design languages including celebration animations, transition effects, loading states, and micro-interactions that reward effort, acknowledge progress, and maintain engagement without distraction

  • VFX & Motion Graphics Production: Design and produce visual effects and motion graphics that bring educational content to life—think particle systems for correct answers, character animations that guide learning, and dynamic visual feedback that makes abstract concepts tangible

  • Engagement Mechanics Design: Develop interaction patterns and feedback systems that motivate students to push through challenges, celebrate their growth, and build genuine excitement around learning milestones

  • Cross-Product Influence: Collaborate with UX/UI designers and product managers to ensure interaction design principles are woven throughout the entire product experience, advocating for student engagement in every feature decision

  • Prototyping & Proof of Concepts: Create high-fidelity interactive prototypes and motion studies that communicate interaction vision to stakeholders, developers, and educators

  • Implementation Collaboration: Work closely with front-end developers to ensure animations and interactions are implemented with the intended emotional impact, performance, and polish

  • Impact Measurement: Partner with product and data teams to measure how interaction design affects student engagement, time-on-task, completion rates, and learning outcomes, using insights to refine approaches

Must Have:

  • 3+ years of experience in motion design, interaction design, or UX for digital products (experience in educational technology, or children's media strongly preferred)

  • Proficiency in motion design tools (After Effects, Principle, Rive, Lottie, or similar) with a portfolio demonstrating production-ready animations optimized for digital platforms

  • Strong understanding of interaction design principles with experience designing feedback systems, progress indicators, and reward mechanics

  • Proven ability to balance engagement with learning—creating interactions that motivate without overwhelming or distracting from educational goals

  • Technical collaboration skills with experience working alongside developers to implement animations and effects within technical constraints

  • Portfolio requirement: Must include case studies showing motion design work that enhanced user engagement, particularly in education, learning, or youth-focused products

  • Understanding of age-appropriate design with sensitivity to cognitive load, attention spans, and developmental stages

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to articulate the "why" behind interaction design decisions to both creative and non-creative stakeholders

Nice To Have:

  • Background in education, instructional design, or learning science with understanding of how design choices impact learning outcomes

  • Experience designing for K-12 audiences with knowledge of age-specific engagement patterns and attention considerations

  • Illustration or graphic design skills that complement motion work

  • Accessibility expertise with experience designing inclusive interactions for diverse learning needs and abilities

  • Prototyping skills in code (JavaScript/CSS animations, React, or similar) to create functional interaction demos

  • User research experience including observational studies with students, usability testing with children, or A/B testing of interaction patterns
