Job Description
Contracts Manager
Level is a learning technology company dedicated to helping students build real academic and life skills with confidence and joy. We combine proven curriculum principles with world-class interactive design to make meaningful practice something students want to come back to, not something they struggle through.
We support what teachers, schools, and parents are already doing by increasing student engagement with high-quality, standards-aligned practice that reinforces classroom learning. That's why we're building:
For students: Rewarding and motivating learning experiences that meet students where they are to build real academic proficiency.
For educators: Tools that fit naturally into instruction and help students stay engaged while reducing teacher workload.
For parents: Activities that help your kid catch up or get ahead, build confidence, and minimize homework battles — whether learning at school or at home.
We are committed to helping every person maximize their potential and live a life of meaning. It's a difficult problem that requires brilliant people and tremendous effort over time.
If you want to use your skills to make a difference for the world, we're looking for an exceptional Contracts Manager to own and scale our contract management function. You'll be the architect of our contract processes, the strategic partner our teams rely on to keep the business moving, and the person who ensures our legal operations run with precision as we grow.
What You'll Do
You'll own our entire contract management ecosystem taking full ownership of our DocuSign and Ironclad platforms and building the processes, playbooks, and infrastructure that will define how we operate for years to come.
Contract Management System Leadership
Serve as the organizational expert on DocuSign and Ironclad, optimizing configurations and leveraging advanced features to drive efficiency
Design and implement automated workflows that scale with 10x volume growth without sacrificing accuracy or speed
Develop and maintain standardized templates, clause libraries, and playbooks that reduce cycle times and minimize risk
Ensure a complete, auditable contract repository with zero gaps in tracking or accessibility
Evaluate and recommend new tools and integrations that strengthen the contract lifecycle
Strategic Contract Operations
Manage the full contract lifecycle from intake and drafting through negotiation, execution, implementation, and renewal with a high degree of autonomy
Lead or support contract negotiations with vendors, partners, and customers, identifying risks and escalating appropriately
Proactively manage renewals, expirations, and key obligation dates to protect the business from lapses or unfavorable auto-renewals
Serve as a trusted advisor to cross-functional stakeholders (Sales, Partnerships, Finance, People Ops) on contract terms, risk, and process
Handle urgent and high-priority contract needs with speed and sound judgment
Process Building, Automation & Reporting
Design intuitive intake and request workflows that teams actually want to use
Build alert systems and automated triggers so nothing falls through the cracks
Create dashboards and reporting that give leadership real-time visibility into contract status, cycle times, spend, and risk metrics
Develop and deliver training and resources that empower teams to self-serve on routine matters without creating bottlenecks
Identify process gaps and inefficiencies, and drive continuous improvement initiatives
Vendor & Relationship Management
Own vendor contract relationships, including renewals, renegotiations, and performance tracking
Partner with Finance on spend visibility and contract-related budget planning
Maintain strong relationships with outside counsel and other legal partners to support complex or specialized contract needs
Who You Are
Must Have
5+ years of experience in contract management, legal operations, procurement, or a related field — ideally in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
Demonstrated ownership of a contract management function or system (CLM platforms like Ironclad, DocuSign CLM, Agiloft, or similar)
Strong understanding of contract law fundamentals, standard commercial terms, and risk assessment
Exceptional attention to detail with a proven track record of accuracy and thoroughness
Systems thinker who builds scalable, repeatable processes — not just one-off fixes
Comfortable operating with high autonomy, making sound decisions with imperfect information
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate legal concepts for non-legal stakeholders
Naturally organized with genuine satisfaction from airtight execution
Based in or willing to relocate to Austin, TX
Nice to Have
Experience with DocuSign CLM and/or Ironclad specifically
Background supporting SaaS, edtech, or B2B/B2G sales contracting
Experience building a contract function from the ground up at a startup or scaling company
Familiarity with procurement operations and vendor management best practices
Basic understanding of data analysis, reporting tools, or BI dashboards
API integration or automation tool experience (Zapier, Workato, etc.)
Paralegal certification or legal education background
