Technical Project Manager
Job Description
About Augur
Augur transforms legacy sensor systems into real-time operational intelligence. We help organisations act before threats escalate – not after damage is done. Everything we build is privacy-first by design.
Our platform connects to existing cameras and sensors to detect threats, retrace events, and surface real-time insights – all without replacing a single device. Augur helps teams reduce risk, cut costs, and grow revenue through better visibility, faster decisions, and fewer blind spots.
Our culture is built on a foundation of radical candor and mutual trust. We recognise that being an industry leader requires more than just building exceptional products – it requires empowering a team of exceptional people. Individually, we operate with high autonomy; collectively, we’re unified by a shared drive to achieve our mission through a commitment to excellence.
The Role
Augur is seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager to own the translation between product strategy and engineering execution. You'll serve as the operational architect for how we build, sequence, and ship complex technical programmes as we scale from 60 to 100+ people.
This role sits at the intersection of engineering, product, and business strategy. You'll have the credibility to push back on engineering assumptions, negotiate timelines with product leadership, and shape how we sequence work. You're not managing people, you're managing programmes, dependencies, and the alignment required to prevent good intentions from becoming execution disasters.
Success means engineering programmes hit milestones predictably, stakeholders trust our commitments, and we avoid the chaos of misalignment.
Core Responsibilities
1. Programme Architecture & Sequencing
Map dependencies across product, engineering, and business timelines to determine optimal build sequence
Make constraints and bottlenecks visible to leadership before they become crises
Provide clear analysis to founders and investors on why we're sequencing work a particular way
2. Cross-Functional Translation & Alignment
Translate product requirements into engineering constraints and vice versa
Provide realistic timeline assessments backed by evidence
Resolve misalignment between teams as it emerges
Build credibility through intellectual honesty about what's feasible
3. Risk Identification & Mitigation
Identify architectural risks, resource constraints, and fragile dependencies early
Work with technical leads to ensure risks are understood and mitigated
Surface critical risks to leadership with sufficient lead time for action
4. Delivery Visibility & Accountability
Maintain visibility of progress against business commitments
Establish planning, stakeholder communication and review cadences that provide transparency
Manage backlog prioritisation and prevent overcommitment
Desired Qualifications & Experience
Technical Foundation: You understand software architecture, deployment complexity, and technical trade-offs deeply enough to ask good questions and spot when estimates don't make sense. You've shipped technical products with meaningful complexity.
Process as a means, not a goal: You understand that meetings, charts and spreadsheets are the tools we use to achieve outcomes, not ends in themselves. You are laser-focused on making sure the processes you set up and maintain serve the goal of ensuring product success.
Judgment Under Uncertainty: You're comfortable making calls with incomplete information. You use pattern recognition and experience to decide, then revisit as you learn more.
Influence Without Authority: You operate as a peer to product and engineering leadership. You earn credibility through depth of thinking, not title. You can push back because your reasoning is grounded in realistic assessment.
Communication Across Levels: You move fluidly between technical depth and strategic simplicity. You write clearly, present clearly, and distil complexity without losing accuracy.
Pragmatism & Resourcefulness: You're comfortable with "good enough for now" when perfect would miss the timeline. You find creative solutions within constraints and know the difference between technical debt you can live with and technical debt that will kill you.
Experience Profile: You likely come from one of these backgrounds:
Technical lead or engineering manager who transitioned into programme/operations
Technical co-founder or startup operator who's built and shipped multiple products
Senior Technical Project Manager or programme manager at a scaling tech company
You have 5-8+ years of relevant experience shipping complex technical products. Track record and judgment matter more than seniority.
Desirable: Eligible and willing to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC level or above). We'll support the process for the right candidate.
Accessibility and inclusivity
At Augur, our culture is built on radical candor and mutual trust. To solve the complex, physical-world problems our customers face, we need a team that thinks differently.
Whether you’re self-taught, have a non-traditional background, or are returning to the workforce, if you have the grit and the experience we’re looking for at Augur, we’d love to hear from you.
We are committed to fostering a diverse workplace and ensuring an accessible hiring experience - please let us know if you require any accommodations during the interview process to help you do your best work.
