Job Description

Universal Design Studio is an architecture and interiors practice based in London and New York, dedicated to creating spaces that inspire and endure. Founded in 2001 by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, the studio has built an international reputation for delivering thoughtful, finely crafted environments grounded in design-led strategy and research.

Through the ideas, objects, and spaces we create, we seek to cultivate intelligence, find beauty, and drive transformation, all while deepening connections, inspiring participation, and unlocking creative potential in every interaction.

We are looking for a talented Design Assistant to join Universal Design Studio in London. Reporting to the Senior Creative Team, you are proactive, thoughtful and inquisitive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to projects from concept through to completion
  • Support design development, including spatial planning and furniture layouts
  • Assist with schedules, specifications, and technical drawing packages
  • Research and source furniture, lighting, materials, and equipment
  • Produce 3D models, visuals, and presentation materials
  • Develop material and colour palettes
  • Liaise with suppliers, order materials, and coordinate samples
  • Provide creative problem solving and general project support
  • Assist with administrative tasks as required

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Interior Design or Architecture
  • 1–2 years’ post-graduate experience in workplace, hospitality, cultural, or retail sectors
  • Proficiency in CAD and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Knowledge of Vectorworks, SketchUp, Rhino, AutoCAD, or BIM is advantageous
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and team-oriented approach
  • Good organisational and time management abilities
  • Awareness of industry standards and current design trends
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing client requirements
